Miami-Dade Police Department celebrates Marine Theft Task Force’s achievements, honors them as Unit of the Month

Doral, Florida – The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) has proudly announced the Multi-Agency Marine Theft Task Force (MAMTTF) of the Kendall District as the distinguished Unit of the Month for June 2024. This recognition will be formally celebrated at a ceremony scheduled for July 25, 2024, at the Fred Taylor Headquarters Building in Doral, FL.

The MAMTTF, a unique coalition in South Florida, comprises various municipal, county, state, and federal agencies including the Broward, Palm Beach, Monroe, and Martin County Sheriff’s Offices, as well as the Homestead and Miami Beach Police Departments. The United States Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Homeland Security Investigations are also integral members of this task force. Their collective efforts focus on curtailing the rampant issues surrounding the theft and distribution of marine vessels and related equipment.

From the onset of January 2023, the task force has demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in handling complex investigations related to marine thefts. Their proactive approach has encompassed surveillance, undercover operations, ship inspections, and extensive marina details. This rigorous engagement has led to the execution of 24 search warrants, the arrest of 101 individuals, and the apprehension of an additional 14, culminating in the recovery of stolen property valued at approximately $2.53 million.

The success of the MAMTTF not only showcases their high level of investigative prowess but also underscores their significant impact on the community by enhancing safety and security around marine environments. The intelligence gathered through these operations has been invaluable, aiding numerous local, state, and federal investigations.
