Coral Springs earns statewide planning award for Habitat for Humanity partnership
Coral Springs, Florida – The City of Coral Springs has earned statewide recognition for its partnership with Habitat for Humanity, receiving an Award of Excellence from the American Planning Association’s Florida Chapter.
The award, presented in the Implementation Project category, recognizes the city’s approach to planning, collaboration and community impact. APA Florida presented the honor in October during the 2026 Florida Planning Conference in Miami.
The conference recognized planning initiatives from across Florida that demonstrate professional excellence and contribute to residents’ quality of life. Coral Springs’ recognition focused on its work with Habitat for Humanity and the role of partnerships in bringing community projects into practice.

For the city, the award highlights cooperation between local government and a community organization working toward shared objectives. The recognition places that partnership among the planning efforts honored by APA Florida this year.
“This award reflects the City of Coral Springs’ commitment to strategic planning, strong partnerships, and creating opportunities that make a lasting difference in our community,” said Tina Jou, Director of Development Services. “Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity demonstrates what can be accomplished when we work together toward shared goals. I’m proud of the teamwork and dedication that helped bring this important project to life.”
Jou’s remarks emphasized both the partnership and the work of those involved in carrying out the project. The Implementation Project award recognizes that connection between planning priorities and putting a community initiative into action.

APA Florida’s annual Project Awards cover several areas of planning, including development, conservation, public engagement and implementation. The program recognizes exemplary initiatives and highlights approaches that address community needs while establishing standards for the planning profession.
“Each year, these awards showcase the important role planning plays in shaping vibrant, resilient communities,” APA Florida President Allara Mills-Gutcher, AICP, said in announcing the 2026 recipients.
Coral Springs’ award falls within that broader statewide recognition of how planning decisions and partnerships can influence communities. The city described the honor as reinforcing its ongoing commitment to effective planning and collaboration that turns shared priorities into results for residents.
