Coral Springs families get another chance to apply for district School Choice programs as second late application window opens

Coral Springs, Florida – Families in Coral Springs will have another opportunity to explore school options this week as Broward County Public Schools opens a second late application window for its School Choice programs.

Starting Monday, parents can submit new applications for magnet programs, Nova schools, and school reassignments. District officials say the window is designed to give families more flexibility if they missed earlier deadlines or want to adjust their previous selections.

Applications must be completed through the district’s Focus Parent Portal, which serves as the central system for School Choice enrollment and updates.

According to the district, this second application period is open only to families who did not submit a late application in April. It also allows parents who already applied during that period to make changes if they wish to update their selections.

Officials noted that any new application submitted during this window will replace previous choices made in April. That means families who choose to reapply should carefully review their updated selections before submitting, as the most recent application will be the one considered.

However, district leaders emphasized that families who already applied during the original open enrollment period earlier this year do not need to take any further action. Those applications remain valid and will continue to be processed as part of the School Choice review cycle.

The School Choice program gives students access to educational options outside of their assigned neighborhood schools. Through the program, families can apply for magnet programs focused on specialized areas of study, attend Nova schools, or request reassignments to different campuses within the district.

For many families, these options provide opportunities to match students with programs that better fit their academic interests, learning styles, or long-term goals. District officials say participation in School Choice continues to be strong across Broward County, with families using the system to explore alternatives that may offer different educational experiences than traditional school zoning.

The late application window is part of the district’s ongoing effort to ensure access and flexibility for families navigating school placement decisions. Officials encourage parents to take time to review available programs before submitting any changes, as each selection plays a role in final placement decisions.

As the new window opens, Coral Springs parents once again have the chance to reassess their school options and make adjustments that best suit their children’s educational needs ahead of the upcoming school year.
