Five people hospitalized after vehicle loses control and crashes into tree on Riverside Drive in Coral Springs
Coral Springs, Florida – A serious crash in Coral Springs left five people injured Wednesday evening after a single vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree along Riverside Drive, according to preliminary information released by authorities.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. in the 5000 block of Riverside Drive as the vehicle was traveling northbound. Investigators say early findings suggest the driver may have lost control before the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree with significant force. Five people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, where they found multiple occupants injured. Police and fire rescue crews worked together to provide immediate medical assistance and manage traffic in the surrounding area as the situation unfolded.
According to Coral Springs police, three of the injured occupants were transported to Broward Health North for treatment. Among them was one individual who suffered serious injuries. Officials have not released further details about that person’s condition.
The remaining two occupants were taken to Broward Health Coral Springs. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, though authorities did not provide additional information on the severity or nature of those injuries.
Due to the crash and emergency response activity, all lanes of Riverside Drive were shut down in both directions between Northwest 50th Street and Northwest 52nd Place. The closure remained in effect while investigators documented the scene, cleared debris and ensured the area was safe for reopening.
Traffic in the surrounding neighborhood was heavily impacted as drivers were forced to find alternate routes. Officers remained on site for an extended period to assist with traffic control and support the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Factors such as speed, road conditions and possible driver distraction are expected to be part of the investigation, though officials have not confirmed any contributing causes at this stage.
The Coral Springs Police Department said the investigation is still active and ongoing. Additional updates are expected once more information becomes available and investigators complete their review of the crash scene and vehicle evidence.
As of now, officials are urging drivers to remain cautious in the area and to expect continued police presence while the investigation is finalized.
The crash marks another reminder of how quickly a routine drive can turn dangerous, leaving multiple people injured and causing significant disruption to local traffic flow.
