Coral Springs candidates prepare to answer voters’ questions during virtual forums ahead of the election
Coral Springs, Florida – Voters in Coral Springs will have an opportunity to learn more about the people seeking seats on the City Commission during a series of virtual candidate forums scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1.
The League of Women Voters of Broward County is joining forces with the Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce to host the evening of online discussions. The events will focus on three races, giving residents a chance to hear directly from candidates before the election.
The first forum will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature the two candidates competing in the mayoral race, which is also identified as Seat 1. That portion of the event is scheduled to last 25 minutes, ending at 7:25 p.m.
Attention will then turn to Seat 3, where five candidates are running. Their forum is scheduled to begin immediately after the mayoral discussion at 7:25 p.m. and will continue until 8:20 p.m.
The final forum of the night will focus on Seat 4. Three candidates are seeking that commission seat, with their discussion scheduled from 8:20 p.m. until 8:55 p.m.
Organizers have structured the evening so that each forum will begin as soon as the previous one ends. Candidates competing in the same race will be given the same questions, allowing voters to hear how each person responds to the issues presented during the discussion.
The online format is intended to make the forums accessible to residents who want to follow the local races without attending an in-person event. Voters will be able to watch the forums live through the Facebook pages of both the League of Women Voters of Broward County and the Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The discussions will also remain available after the live events. Videos from the forums will be posted on the League of Women Voters of Broward County’s YouTube channel, giving residents another opportunity to watch the candidates and review the discussions.
With three separate races included in the evening’s schedule, the forums will provide voters with a concentrated look at the candidates competing for the mayoral position and commission Seats 3 and 4.
The League of Women Voters and the regional chamber are presenting the forums as an opportunity for residents to become more familiar with the candidates ahead of the election. By asking candidates in each race the same questions, the organizations will also give voters a consistent way to compare the responses of those seeking office.
The virtual forums will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, with the mayoral candidates, followed by the Seat 3 and Seat 4 discussions.
