Anthony Valdes commits to Southern Union State as Coral Glades basketball shines in summer competition

Coral Springs, Florida – The Coral Glades boys basketball program continues to gain attention after a successful stretch that includes a major college commitment, strong summer performances and impressive results against teams from across the region.

Former Jaguars standout Anthony Valdes, a member of the Coral Glades Class of 2025, recently announced his commitment to Southern Union State Community College, marking the next step in his basketball career. Valdes was an important part of the program’s historic success during his senior season, helping the Jaguars capture their first district championship in school history.

Valdes played two seasons on the varsity team and was part of a group that helped elevate Coral Glades basketball to a new level. His commitment adds another positive moment for a program that continues to build a strong reputation.

While celebrating Valdes’ next chapter, the Jaguars have also been busy preparing for the upcoming season through summer competition. Coral Glades opened summer play in June at Lynn University, where the team picked up three victories against strong opponents. The Jaguars defeated Wellington, Martin County and Coral Park High School during the event.

The team later competed at the FABC Team Camp, facing a challenging schedule against a talented group of opponents. Coral Glades finished with a 1-4 record, but the results did not fully reflect the team’s competitiveness. Two of the losses came by only one point, showing how closely matched the Jaguars were against some of the area’s best competition.

Several players stepped up during the summer action. Donovan Swain led Coral Glades offensively, averaging 13.4 points per game. Gavin Reed and Nate Accius also provided strong contributions, each averaging double figures and helping the Jaguars remain competitive throughout the summer schedule.

Coral Glades carried that momentum into another summer league opportunity, where the Jaguars delivered one of their strongest performances. The team opened with a dominant 60-27 victory over CBA Prep before moving into the top division of the GBCA Team Camp.

Against a field featuring teams from around the Southeast, Coral Glades proved it belonged among the best. The Jaguars were one of only four teams to finish undefeated in the event’s top division, recording a perfect 4-0 mark.

The unbeaten run included victories over several quality opponents. Coral Glades defeated East Hall 66-35, Dothan 65-32, North Oconee 73-62 and Grayson 57-52 to complete the impressive tournament performance.

The strong summer showing comes after a historic season for the Jaguars. Coral Glades finished the previous year with a school-record 21 victories, won its second consecutive district championship and advanced to the Regional Final. The team also finished ranked 15th in the state.

With experienced players continuing to develop and the program gaining recognition, Coral Glades appears focused on maintaining the success it has built over the past several seasons. The combination of player development, postseason achievements and strong summer competition has positioned the Jaguars as one of the programs to watch heading into the next basketball season.
