Coral Springs Charter celebrates award-winning spring sports season highlighted by multiple conference honors and a state championship softball run
Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs Charter is closing out its spring sports season with a long list of honors, standout performances, and team milestones that reflect one of the most successful athletic stretches in recent school history. From state championships to breakout individual seasons, the Panthers made their mark across multiple sports.
At the center of the celebration is the softball program, which delivered a season that blended consistency, pressure moments, and a championship finish. Conference awards following the spring season highlighted just how dominant the team was, even in a year where several games came down to the final inning.
The Panthers finished with a 23-4 record, and what stands out even more is how close many of those games were. All four losses came by a single run, showing just how competitive the team was from start to finish. After tough setbacks in both the Big-8 and District Championship games, Coral Springs Charter regrouped and found its rhythm at the perfect time.
That response carried into the postseason, where the team delivered a strong playoff push. A key win over Cardinal Gibbons in the Regional Final set the tone, followed by two victories at the state championships that sealed another title for the program. It marked the sixth state championship in Coral Springs Charter softball history and the eighth overall for head coach Mark Montimurro, who was later named Coach of the Year.

Individual awards reflected the team’s depth and balance. Two players earned top honors, with Gio Gurgel named Offensive Player of the Year and Courtney Wahlbrink recognized as Pitcher of the Year.
Gurgel put together a powerful season at the plate, batting .405 with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs. Her consistency and power made her one of the most dangerous hitters in the conference, especially during key matchups late in the season.
Wahlbrink was equally dominant in the circle. She posted a 22-2 record with an outstanding 0.66 ERA, while also contributing offensively with a .396 batting average, two home runs, and 10 extra-base hits. Her two-way impact helped anchor the Panthers throughout the season.
Support around the stars was just as important. Alyson Vinze and Leah Rutherford earned First Team selections, with Vinze, an eighth grader, leading the team with a .473 batting average and scoring 32 runs. Rutherford added a solid .305 average and 19 RBIs, providing steady production in the lineup.
On the Second Team, Cam Thiele, Jazzy Chung, and Bree Martinelli earned recognition. Thiele and Chung ranked second and third on the team in RBIs and combined for three home runs, while Martinelli finished with a strong .368 batting average.
Third Team honors went to Greysynn Courtney, Chloe Koering, and Addi Brown. Both Courtney and Koering hit above .300, while Brown drove in 13 runs and delivered a key hit during the state championship run, adding another important moment to the team’s postseason success.
Baseball also contributed to the school’s strong spring showing. The Panthers advanced to the regional playoffs and showed steady growth throughout the season. Easton Viveros earned First Team All-Conference honors after hitting .390 with one home run, 10 RBIs, seven doubles, and five triples, making him one of the most versatile hitters on the roster.
The team finished with nine wins and competed in two tight playoff games against North Broward Prep. Rodney Chung earned Second Team honors after hitting a home run during the season, while Edward Canard and Chris Lora were named to the Third Team. Canard posted a 5-1 record with a 1.81 ERA, and Lora added a .365 batting average.
Flag football delivered one of the most historic moments of the season. The team captured its first district championship in program history, marking a breakthrough achievement for the program. Quarterback Ali Rodriguez led the way with a massive season, throwing for 2,786 yards and 20 touchdowns while also rushing for 1,256 yards and 12 scores.
Breanna Mazanec and Eva Rodriguez were both named to the Second Team after combining for more than 1,700 receiving yards. Rile Guerra also earned Third Team recognition as a rising offensive threat.
In tennis, Santiago Garcia Castillo earned Second Team honors, while track and field standout Jordin Sawyer also received Second Team recognition. Honorable Mention selections included Gianna Barnes, Ava Dorvil, Reagan Pinkston, Sydney Leath, Madison Louis, and Lily Richardson, rounding out a broad list of athletes who contributed across the spring season.
From championship trophies to individual awards spread across multiple sports, Coral Springs Charter’s spring campaign closed with a clear message: depth, development, and competitive consistency defined the Panthers’ year, and the success was shared across nearly every program on campus.
