Broward Health Coral Springs unveils new advanced CT scanner and renovated EMS breakroom to improve emergency care and support first responders
Coral Springs, Florida – Broward Health Coral Springs is stepping up its emergency care capabilities after unveiling two major upgrades aimed at improving both patient treatment and first responder support.
The hospital recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the arrival of a new state-of-the-art CT scanner in its emergency department, along with a newly renovated EMS breakroom designed specifically for emergency medical crews. The upgrades reflect a broader push to modernize emergency services and improve efficiency during critical moments.
The event brought together a wide range of participants, including hospital leadership, physicians, members of the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, elected officials, community representatives, and fire rescue and EMS personnel. The gathering highlighted not just new equipment, but also the collaboration between healthcare providers and emergency responders who work side by side every day.
At the center of the medical upgrade is the Siemens Pro.Pulse dual-source CT scanner, which hospital leaders say will significantly enhance diagnostic speed and accuracy in the emergency room. The system is designed to produce high-resolution images in a shorter time frame, while also reducing radiation exposure for patients.
Hospital CEO Kristen Bowman emphasized how the technology will directly impact emergency cardiac care, where timing and precision are critical.
“We are so proud of the investment we are making at Broward Health Coral Springs,” Bowman said. “The dual-source scanner is especially important for our cardiac CTA patients since the dose is significantly less due to the updated software, and with its location in the ER, it will markedly improve our turnaround time.”
With the scanner now located directly in the emergency department, doctors will be able to evaluate patients more quickly, reducing delays that can be crucial in life-threatening situations such as heart attacks, strokes, or severe trauma cases. Hospital officials say faster imaging can lead to faster diagnosis, which in turn leads to faster treatment decisions.
Alongside the medical technology upgrade, the hospital also introduced a newly renovated EMS breakroom. While less high-tech, the space plays an important role in supporting the well-being of first responders who frequently arrive at the hospital after intense emergency calls.
The updated breakroom provides EMS crews with a dedicated area to complete documentation, take short rest breaks, and access refreshments before returning to service. Officials say the goal is to create a more comfortable and functional environment for paramedics and firefighters who spend long shifts responding to emergencies across the community.
Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department Fire Chief John Whalen highlighted the importance of that support space for frontline workers.
“This new breakroom creates a more welcoming space for our crews and helps them quickly reset and get back on the road serving our community,” Whalen said.
Hospital leaders say the two upgrades work hand in hand. While the CT scanner improves patient diagnosis and treatment speed, the EMS breakroom strengthens the system on the front end by supporting the first responders who bring patients in during emergencies.
Together, the investments reflect a continued effort to modernize emergency care infrastructure in Coral Springs, focusing on both technology and teamwork. Officials say the changes are expected to improve workflow, reduce wait times, and enhance coordination between hospital staff and emergency personnel.
As emergency demand continues to grow across South Florida, hospital representatives say these improvements are part of a longer-term commitment to ensuring that both patients and responders receive the tools and support they need when every second matters.
