Broward County Public Schools honors Coral Springs students and educators for outstanding character leadership and perfect attendance achievements across the district
Coral Springs, Florida – Broward County Public Schools is spotlighting dozens of students and educators from across the district, including several from Coral Springs, for their commitment to strong character, leadership, and consistent school attendance.
District officials announced Wednesday that 50 students and 22 educators will be recognized during the 26th Annual Kids & Staff of Character Awards and Stellar Attendance Recognition ceremony. The event is scheduled for Monday, May 11, and will take place at Bailey Concert Hall at Broward College.
The annual program highlights individuals who demonstrate the district’s eight core character traits: cooperation, responsibility, citizenship, kindness, respect, honesty, self-control, and tolerance. Officials say the goal is to celebrate not just academic performance, but the everyday behaviors that help shape positive school communities.
This year’s honorees include several students from Coral Springs schools who stood out for their leadership and personal values. Recognized students include Melanie Barrett, Sara Benitez, Brooklyn Defroscia, Alan Quilo Martinez, Gavin Palmer, and Emma Smith.
Alongside the students, several educators and school staff members from the Coral Springs area will also be honored for modeling the district’s values in their daily work. Those recognized include Ashley Bravo, LaSylvia McCorvey, Pillar Studstill, and Jennifer Pugatch.
District officials say these recognitions are meant to highlight the impact that consistent positive behavior and strong attendance can have on student success. In addition to character awards, the ceremony will also honor students who achieved perfect attendance throughout the academic year at elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Two students from across the district will receive special recognition for maintaining perfect attendance from kindergarten through 12th grade. Officials described this achievement as rare and significant, reflecting long-term dedication, discipline, and resilience over the course of their entire school journey.
The character education program behind the awards is a key initiative within Broward County schools. According to district information, it is designed to encourage positive behavior, build respectful relationships, and create safe learning environments for all students.
Schools reinforce these values throughout the year through classroom instruction, schoolwide activities, and various student-led initiatives. Teachers and administrators work together to integrate the character traits into daily learning, aiming to make them a consistent part of school culture rather than isolated lessons.
District leaders say the awards ceremony is not only a celebration, but also a reminder of the importance of behavior, attendance, and engagement in education. While academic performance remains important, officials emphasize that character and consistency often play an equally important role in long-term student success.
As the ceremony approaches, schools across Broward County are preparing to honor their representatives, with families, educators, and community members expected to attend. For many of the students and staff being recognized, officials say the event is both a celebration of achievement and a reflection of the daily effort it takes to build strong school communities.
