Chiffon and Samantha continue waiting at Broward County Animal Care for loving families and forever homes
Coral Springs, Florida – Two very different animals are waiting at Broward County Animal Care for something they have not yet found during their time at the shelter — a permanent home and a family to call their own.
Chiffon, a 4-year-old American Staffordshire terrier mix, has spent about three months at the shelter after arriving in early May. Samantha, an 11-year-old domestic shorthair cat, came in more recently after being found abandoned inside an apartment with three dogs.
Both animals have their own stories and personalities, but they share the same need for someone willing to give them a second chance.
Chiffon, identified as A2475489, is a 56-pound spayed female who was found as a stray in Coral Springs. Shelter staff describe her as sweet and affectionate, with a clear appreciation for attention from people she trusts.
She enjoys being petted and receiving treats, and she likes staying close to her favorite people. Once she becomes comfortable with someone, Chiffon is not shy about showing affection, including giving plenty of kisses.
She also has an active and curious side. Chiffon enjoys following scents with her nose, which means activities such as scent games and nose work could be useful ways to keep her occupied and mentally engaged once she settles into a home.
There is one important consideration for potential adopters. Chiffon can be selective when it comes to other dogs, so Broward County Animal Care recommends her for someone interested in a one-pet household. She also appears to be housebroken and has been keeping her kennel clean.
Her time at the shelter has also revealed another side of her personality. Chiffon recently donated blood to help four anemic puppies that needed transfusions. It is a small but notable act from a dog who is still waiting for someone to give her a home of her own.
Chiffon is vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. She is ready to leave the shelter on the same day she is adopted. Her adoption fee has been waived, meaning the adopter is responsible only for the $25 Broward County pet registration fee.
Samantha has a very different story.
The 11-year-old tuxedo cat, identified as A1888207, weighs about 10 pounds and arrived at Broward County Animal Care in late July. She was found abandoned inside an apartment where three dogs were also left.
Despite the circumstances surrounding her arrival, Samantha has remained affectionate and friendly. She enjoys being petted and spending time close to people. Treats are another favorite, and she also likes rolling around in catnip.
Her age may make her less noticeable to some visitors compared with younger animals, but Samantha still has plenty of companionship to offer. Animal Care notes that her friendly nature and previous experience living alongside dogs could make her a suitable choice for a family that already has canine companions.
