More than 90,000 Vote-by-Mail ballots begin arriving for Broward County voters ahead of the August Primary Election
Coral Springs, Florida – More than 90,000 Broward County voters who requested Vote-by-Mail ballots for the upcoming Aug. 18 Primary Election are set to receive their ballots as election officials begin the mailing process this week.
The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office announced that it will begin sending out more than 90,000 domestic Vote-by-Mail ballots on Monday, July 13, starting at 10 a.m. The mailing gives voters more than a month to review their choices, complete their ballots and return them before Election Day.
Election officials are reminding voters who choose to vote by mail to carefully follow all instructions included with their ballots. Voters must sign the return envelope and make sure completed ballots arrive on time in order to be counted.
Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott encouraged voters to use the tracking tools available through the county’s election website. The system allows voters to monitor when their ballot is mailed, when it is received by the elections office and when it has been counted. It also provides alerts if there is a problem that requires the voter’s attention.
“Voting by mail is a secure and convenient way to participate in the Primary Election,” Broward Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott said in a statement. “I encourage Broward County voters who requested a Vote-By-Mail ballot to track their ballot, sign the return envelope, and return it early so it is received by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.”
Vote-by-Mail ballots come with prepaid return postage, making it easier for voters to send their completed ballots back. However, officials recommend returning ballots as early as possible instead of waiting until the final days before the election.
Under Florida law, Vote-by-Mail ballots must be received by the Supervisor of Elections Office no later than 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, in order to be counted. Postmarks do not replace the requirement that ballots arrive by the deadline.
Voters who prefer to return their ballots in person will also have options. Completed Vote-by-Mail ballots can be placed in secure ballot intake stations located at Supervisor of Elections offices or at designated early voting locations during the Early Voting period.
Officials noted that on Monday, Aug. 17, and Election Day, Aug. 18, Vote-by-Mail ballots will only be accepted at secure ballot intake stations located at Supervisor of Elections offices throughout Broward County.
As the Primary Election approaches, voters should also be aware of several important deadlines. The deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation is Monday, July 20. Voters who want to request a Vote-by-Mail ballot must do so by Thursday, Aug. 6, at 5 p.m.
Early voting will take place from Aug. 8 through Aug. 16, with polling locations open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Election Day, Aug. 18, in-person voting will be available from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Residents with questions about voter registration, Vote-by-Mail requests, updating voter information or other election matters can find additional details through BrowardVotes.gov.
