Coral Springs moves forward with ambitious $140,000 plan to rebuild Jaycee Park basketball court into upgraded asphalt facility with modern equipment and design
Coral Springs, Florida – A popular basketball court at Jaycee Park is set for a major upgrade as the City of Coral Springs begins the process of replacing the aging playing surface with a completely new facility.
City officials launched the search for a contractor on Monday for a project valued at approximately $140,000, marking the first step toward rebuilding the existing basketball court at the park located at 4800 Riverside Drive.
According to city documents, the current concrete court has reached the end of its service life and will be removed entirely. The renovation will include demolishing the existing court along with the surrounding fence before construction begins on a replacement court designed with updated materials and equipment.
Instead of concrete, the new playing surface will be built using asphalt and finished with an acrylic coating intended to provide a smoother and more durable court for recreational players.
The upgraded facility will also feature new basketball equipment at both ends of the court. Plans call for installing a 72-inch rectangular backboard on one side, while the opposite end will receive a 54-inch fan-style backboard. Both hoops will be mounted on aluminum goose-neck poles as part of the overall redesign.
Construction is expected to begin in September, once the city completes the contractor selection process. After a contract is awarded, the selected company will have 60 days to complete the demolition and installation work.
The improvements are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain and modernize public recreational facilities used by residents throughout the year. Replacing worn infrastructure helps ensure parks remain safe, functional, and attractive for families and athletes alike.
Jaycee Park is situated near the intersection of Pine Ridge Drive and Riverside Drive and is open daily from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. The park serves as a neighborhood gathering place and offers recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages.
While the basketball court will eventually receive a completely new look, the project is currently focused on securing a qualified contractor capable of completing the work on schedule. If construction begins as anticipated in September, residents can expect the renovated court to be ready for use later in the fall.
Once complete, the new asphalt court and updated basketball equipment are expected to provide players with an improved experience while extending the life of one of Jaycee Park’s most frequently used recreational amenities.
