Coral Springs launches major supply drive to help communities devastated by Hurricane Melissa across the Caribbean
Coral Springs, Florida – In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, which made direct landfall on Jamaica and caused widespread destruction across surrounding Caribbean islands, Coral Springs city officials have announced a new relief effort aimed at providing essential supplies to affected communities. From November 1 through November 15, Coral Springs residents can drop off donations at two convenient locations. City Hall Lobby, located at 9500 W. Sample Road, will accept items Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Public Safety Building Lobby at 2801 Coral Springs Drive is open 24 hours a day, allowing residents to contribute at their convenience.
Officials have provided a detailed list of requested items to ensure that relief efforts meet the most urgent needs of those impacted by the storm. Items include tarps, solar-powered lights, work gloves, wash cloths, soap, shampoo or body wash, personal hygiene kits, baby wipes, diapers, hand sanitizer, first aid kits, face masks, and gloves. City leaders stressed that clothing, linens, or perishable goods will not be accepted to prioritize supplies that can be distributed immediately to families in crisis.
The collected items will be carefully organized and shipped to the Caribbean, where Hurricane Melissa has left communities struggling to recover from extensive flooding, wind damage, and infrastructure loss. Local officials said that donations will directly help families rebuild homes, maintain basic hygiene, and access vital medical supplies.
