Marcus Gentilhomme leads Coral Springs-area boys with impressive seventh-place finish at BCAA Cross-Country Championships
Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs High School runner Marcus Gentilhomme delivered a strong performance at the Broward County Athletic Association (BCAA) Cross-Country Championships on October 9, finishing seventh overall and leading all boys representing schools in the Coral Springs area.
The championship meet, held at Markham Park, brought together runners from across Broward County, with several local athletes earning impressive individual finishes and their teams securing places in the standings.
Gentilhomme, who has established himself as Coral Springs High School’s top cross-country runner, acknowledged the difficulty of the race despite his successful finish.
“I ran well today, but it was a hard run,” he said.
Other local runners also recorded notable results in the boys’ competition.
Jahree Pierre of J. P. Taravella High School finished 13th, while Coral Glades High School’s Fabio Castillo placed 18th. His teammate Giovanni Guevara followed with a 24th-place finish.
In the boys’ team standings, Coral Glades led the local schools by finishing sixth overall. J. P. Taravella came in seventh, followed by Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in eighth place.
The girls’ competition also featured several strong performances from Coral Springs-area athletes, including three runners who finished among the top 10.
Camila Castillo of J. P. Taravella led the local girls with a sixth-place finish. Coral Springs Charter School’s Lily Richardson was close behind in seventh, while Olivia Higgins of Coral Springs High School secured ninth place.
Taravella had two additional runners finish among the top 15, with Valentina Castillo taking 12th and Olivia Noel placing 14th.
In the girls’ team standings, Coral Springs Charter recorded the highest finish among local schools, earning fourth place. Taravella followed in fifth, while Marjory Stoneman Douglas finished sixth.
Following the competition, Coral Glades coach Frankie Cunningham expressed satisfaction with his runners’ progress and their performance at the championship meet.
“Our team ran well today, and everyone is improving. Fabio Castillo had a good run and will improve,” he said.
Meanwhile, Taravella coach Dawn Spann believed her athletes had the ability to achieve stronger results and emphasized the importance of mental toughness during difficult portions of a race.
“Running is a mental sport, and our runners need to run harder when they are feeling tired during the race. Our team should be doing better,” she said.
The October 9 championship highlighted the performances of several Coral Springs-area runners, with Gentilhomme leading the boys and Camila Castillo setting the pace among local girls.
While coaches offered different assessments of their teams’ results, the meet provided another opportunity for athletes to compete against runners from across Broward County and measure their progress.
