Coral Springs approves $149,691 project to replace Jaycee Park basketball court with a new asphalt playing surface
Coral Springs, Florida – Basketball players in Coral Springs will soon have a new place to work on their shots, play pickup games and enjoy the sport after the city approved a nearly $150,000 upgrade at Jaycee Park.
During its Sept. 2 meeting, the Coral Springs City Commission approved a $149,691 contract for the construction of a new basketball court at the park. The work will be handled by Custom Pickleball Courts, doing business as Court Kingdom Sports Construction of Hollywood.
The project will replace the park’s existing concrete basketball court. Instead of putting in another concrete surface, the city plans to install an asphalt court, which officials say will be easier to maintain.
The new court will remain the same size as the current one, giving players a full-size basketball facility without changing the amount of space dedicated to the court.
The upgraded playing surface will also receive an acrylic sports coating. Regulation basketball lines will be added as part of the project, giving the court a finished look and a surface designed specifically for sports use.
“The goal of this project is to provide our residents and visitors with a modern, safe, and durable basketball facility while enhancing recreational opportunities within the community,” said Sayona Khandwalla, spokesperson for Coral Springs.
The project is intended to give both local residents and visitors a more updated place to play basketball. The improvements will also replace the existing court surface, which the city currently has at the park.
Paula Rubiano, a spokesperson for Coral Springs, said the decision to use asphalt was based on its easier maintenance compared with the existing concrete surface.
For basketball players, the changes will be relatively straightforward but noticeable. The court will keep its current full-size dimensions while gaining a new playing surface, sports coating and regulation markings.
Jaycee Park is located at 4800 Riverside Drive in Coral Springs. The park is one of the city’s recreational spaces and the basketball court upgrade will add to the facilities available to people using the park.
The $149,691 contract represents the city’s approved cost for the court replacement and improvements. With the commission’s approval now in place, the project can move ahead toward construction.
Once completed, players will have a refreshed basketball court designed for regular recreational use, practice and games. The city says the goal is to provide a facility that is safer, more durable and easier to maintain while giving residents another improved recreational option.
For those who regularly use the basketball court at Jaycee Park, the project will mean a new playing surface without changing the court’s familiar size or location.
