Virtual candidate forums will give Coral Springs voters a closer look at three City Commission races
Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs voters will have an opportunity to hear directly from candidates running for three City Commission seats during a series of virtual forums scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1.
The event is being organized by the League of Women Voters of Broward County in partnership with the Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce. The forums are designed to give residents a chance to hear candidates discuss issues affecting the city and compare their positions before the election.
The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a forum for Seat 1. Mayor Scott J. Brook and Commissioner Joshua Antonio Simmons are the two candidates scheduled to participate in that segment.
The Seat 1 forum is expected to run for 25 minutes, ending at 7:25 p.m. Candidates will be asked the same questions, allowing viewers to hear how each one approaches the issues facing Coral Springs.
The focus will then shift to the more crowded Seat 3 race. Five candidates are scheduled to take part in that forum: William “Bill” Capplis, Kohy Holmes, Marly Metayer, Erick Nyatenya and Terry Ann Williams Edden.
That portion of the event is scheduled to begin at 7:25 p.m. and continue until 8:20 p.m. With five candidates in the race, voters will have an opportunity to hear from each contender during the same forum rather than relying on separate campaign appearances to compare their views.
The final forum of the night will feature the candidates running for Seat 4. Jeffrey “Jeff” Adelman, Tristan Celestin and Jennifer Levi are scheduled to participate.
The Seat 4 discussion will begin at 8:20 p.m. and is expected to conclude at 8:55 p.m.
Each forum will begin immediately after the previous one, creating one continuous evening of candidate discussions. The League of Women Voters and the Chamber said the format will give voters a chance to hear candidates respond to identical questions.
That approach can make it easier for residents to compare the candidates directly, particularly on issues that could affect the future of Coral Springs.
Residents will not need to attend an in-person event to watch the forums. The discussions will be livestreamed on the League of Women Voters of Broward County and Coral Springs Coconut Creek Regional Chamber of Commerce Facebook pages.
For people who cannot watch the event live, recordings will also be made available afterward. The videos will be posted on the League of Women Voters of Broward County’s YouTube channel.
The forums give Coral Springs voters another opportunity to learn about the people seeking seats on the City Commission before making their choices. With three separate races scheduled throughout the evening, residents will be able to hear from all of the participating candidates in one online event.
