Fat Boyz Barbecue location in Coral Springs is closed again leaving uncertainty about the future of the restaurant at its West Sample Road site

Coral Springs, Florida – Fat Boyz Barbecue’s Coral Springs location is now closed, marking another shift for the well-known local barbecue chain that has already experienced multiple changes in the city over the past few years.

A person who answered the restaurant’s main phone line on Wednesday confirmed to TAPinto that the location at 10334 W. Sample Road is permanently closed. However, the situation remains somewhat unclear, as Google listings still suggest the restaurant may reopen on Aug. 31, creating uncertainty about the future of the site.

For now, what is confirmed is that the Coral Springs space is not operating. It is not immediately clear when the closure took effect, and no official public announcement has been issued by the business regarding the decision.

This latest shutdown adds another chapter to Fat Boyz Barbecue’s complicated presence in Coral Springs. The chain previously operated a larger restaurant in the city, which closed during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2021. At that time, like many restaurants, it faced challenges tied to reduced traffic and changing dining conditions.

After a period away from the area, the brand returned in August 2024 with a smaller footprint. The new Coral Springs location opened in the former Juana La Cubana Café space on West Sample Road, offering a more compact dining model focused mainly on takeout, online ordering, pickup, and delivery.

The restaurant operated in an approximately 1,000-square-foot space designed for efficiency rather than traditional dine-in service. Despite its smaller size, it continued to offer many of the chain’s signature barbecue dishes that helped build its reputation in South Florida.

The menu included items such as baby back ribs, smoked chicken, burnt-ends sandwiches, pulled pork, brisket, and the well-known Big Daddy sandwich, a popular choice among returning customers familiar with the brand’s earlier locations.

Even with its return and recognizable menu, the Coral Springs location appears to have struggled to maintain a stable presence. The reasons behind the closure have not been publicly explained, and there has been no official statement confirming whether the shutdown is temporary or permanent.

Meanwhile, Fat Boyz Barbecue continues to operate other locations in South Florida, including restaurants in Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Those remaining sites are still serving customers and remain part of the chain’s active footprint in the region.

The Coral Springs closure leaves another vacant restaurant space on West Sample Road, an area that has seen several business transitions in recent years. For local residents who followed the brand’s return, the sudden closure may come as a surprise, especially given the relatively recent reopening in 2024.

As of now, customers seeking updates are left with conflicting signals between direct confirmation of closure and online listings suggesting a possible reopening date later in the summer. Until the business provides further clarification, the future of the Coral Springs location remains uncertain.

What is clear, however, is that Fat Boyz Barbecue’s presence in Coral Springs has once again come to a pause, continuing a pattern of openings, closures, and relocations that has defined its local history over the past several years.
