Coral Springs Charter School placed under lockdown as police conduct full campus search after report of possible firearm on site

Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs Charter School was placed under lockdown on Thursday afternoon after police received a report of a possible firearm on campus, prompting a rapid response and a full precautionary search of the school building. The situation led to a brief but tense disruption as officers moved quickly to secure the area.

According to police, the first call came in around 1 p.m., reporting a firearm at the school. Officers arrived shortly after and immediately began investigating. As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown while law enforcement conducted a room-to-room search to ensure the safety of students and staff.

By around 1:15 p.m., officers were actively clearing classrooms and hallways. Police Sgt. James Kaban, a spokesperson for the department, said officers worked methodically through the building while asking the public to stay away from the area. Authorities also urged residents not to overwhelm emergency lines while the situation was being handled.

During the response, some students were evacuated from campus and taken to Coral Springs City Hall as a safety measure. School officials later dismissed those students from the city hall location as well as from the front of the school once it was safe to do so. Police officers remained on scene to help manage the dismissal process and ensure everything was orderly.

The lockdown lasted for about an hour in total. At approximately 1:50 p.m., police confirmed that the school had been fully cleared. In a social media update, they stated that no weapon had been found during the search.

“There’s no threat to students or staff and they’re all safe,” police said after completing their sweep of the campus. The announcement brought relief to parents, students, and staff who had been waiting for updates throughout the incident.

Although the immediate threat was ruled out, authorities treated the report seriously from the beginning, following standard safety protocols. Officers emphasized that their response was precautionary and designed to ensure every room of the school was checked thoroughly before normal activity resumed.

The Coral Springs Police Department remained on site even after the all-clear was given, assisting with student dismissal and making sure the transition back to normal conditions was smooth and controlled. Their presence helped guide students and staff as they reunited with families and left the campus.

While the investigation into the initial report continues, officials have not indicated that any weapon was actually present at the school. The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly schools and law enforcement must respond to potential threats, even when they ultimately turn out to be unfounded.

For now, Coral Springs Charter School has returned to normal operations, with police confirming the campus is safe and fully cleared after the afternoon lockdown.
