Construction set to begin on long-awaited new auditorium at Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs

Coral Springs, Florida – A long-anticipated project at Coral Glades High School is finally moving forward, as plans for a brand-new auditorium begin to take shape in Coral Springs, Florida. After years of discussion and delays, construction is now expected to begin this summer, marking a significant milestone for students and staff alike.

The update came during a city workshop held in late March, where Principal Mark Kaplan shared the latest timeline with local leaders. According to city documents, construction is projected to start in August, setting the stage for a project that has been years in the making. Once underway, Kaplan noted that the build could take anywhere from 18 to 22 months to complete, meaning the finished facility may not open its doors until sometime in 2027.

The roots of this project stretch back more than two decades. When Coral Glades High School first opened in 2004, it did so without a dedicated auditorium—an omission that has long impacted the school’s growing arts programs. Despite offering opportunities in band, chorus, orchestra, dance, and theater, the school has never had a proper space for rehearsals or performances.

That gap is now set to close. In August 2024, the Broward County School Board approved a $36.9 million investment to fund both the design and construction of a modern, fully equipped auditorium. The new facility is expected to span approximately 21,400 square feet, signaling a major upgrade not just in size, but in capability.

Plans for the building include seating for at least 800 ആള, a full-scale stage suitable for large productions, and a separate black box theater designed to support more intimate and experimental performances. Together, these features aim to provide a versatile environment where students can learn, practice, and showcase their talents in ways that were previously out of reach.

The chosen site for the auditorium is an open field near the school’s staff parking area, a location that allows for expansion without disrupting existing structures. While earlier expectations suggested construction might begin before the end of 2025, the timeline has since shifted, with the project now firmly set to break ground later this year.

For students involved in the arts, the development represents more than just a new building—it’s a long-overdue investment in creativity and expression. Teachers and administrators have long pointed out the limitations of operating without a dedicated performance space, often relying on makeshift arrangements or external venues.

As construction draws closer, anticipation is building across the campus. The future auditorium promises not only to transform the school’s arts programs but also to serve as a central hub for performances, events, and community gatherings.

After years of waiting, Coral Glades High School is finally on track to gain a space worthy of its students’ talents—one that reflects both their ambition and the community’s commitment to supporting the arts.
