To reorganize its aquatic program, Coral Springs is thinking about terminating its agreement with a nearby swim coaching business
Coral Springs, Florida – A contract between Coral Springs and Swimphish, a local business that provides professional swimming instructor services at the city’s aquatic complex, is about to expire.
Terminating city-based Swimphish’s services will “allow the city to establish a new staffing model that is aligned with other swim programs in the South Florida area,” according a city memo.
According to the document, city officials intend to “support the needs of local swimmers and clubs” by hiring their own swim coaching team.
The memo stated, “This change will meet the needs of our residents while providing more daily oversight and control of programs being offered at the Aquatics Complex (12441 Royal Palm Boulevard).”
According to the document, administrators also intend to work with a local parent organization to create a contract that will help with the “logistics of hosting future home swim meets.”
On Wednesday, the city commissioners will vote on whether to end the contract with Swimphish.
According to the memo, the agreement with Swimphish was first granted in 2020 and was then extended thrice, most recently in May 2024.
The arrangement should be terminated with effect from December 20th, according to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.
A bronze Olympic swimmer named Bruno Fratus and another Olympic swimmer named Michelle Lenhardt were hired by the city earlier this year in August to offer professional swim coaching services to athletes who train at the aquatics complex under an existing agreement with Swimphish.
