Road rage incident in Coral Springs led to a near-fatal stabbing

Coral Springs, Florida – A road rage incident in Coral Springs escalated violently, leading to one man being stabbed multiple times and left fighting for his life. This incident sheds light on the unpredictable nature of road rage and its potentially devastating consequences.

On the morning of November 15, the Coral Springs Police Department received a distress call from the Coral Springs Plaza at 5431 North University Drive. Officers arrived at the scene at approximately 8:32 a.m. to find a victim who had been involved in a serious altercation. According to the victim’s account, he was followed by a driver, later identified as 49-year-old Jason Aucoin of Coral Springs, for an extended period.

The situation took a dangerous turn when the victim, feeling threatened, pulled into the medical plaza. Here, Aucoin allegedly escalated the confrontation by opening the victim’s door and striking him twice. The victim, who was visibly injured upon the officers’ arrival, reported that, in response, he defended himself by stabbing Aucoin multiple times.

What transpired next was a chaotic scene. Aucoin, severely wounded, ran away but remained within the medical center. Medical workers at the scene promptly began administering first aid before Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived to further assist.

Aucoin was subsequently transported to Broward Health North, where he received medical treatment for his severe stab wounds. Due to the nature of his injuries, including the need for intubation, the execution of an arrest warrant was delayed.

Investigators, upon reviewing surveillance footage from the medical plaza, observed an aggressive confrontation that culminated in the stabbing. This footage played a crucial role in the investigation, as it helped law enforcement conclude that the victim had acted in self-defense, believing his life to be in imminent danger.

As a result, an arrest affidavit was filed against Aucoin, charging him with first-degree assault. However, due to his medical condition, his arrest was postponed until December 13. Following his recovery and arrest, Aucoin faced the charges and was released from custody after posting a $50,000 bond.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences that can arise from road rage. It highlights the importance of maintaining composure on the road and the unforeseen dangers of letting anger take control.
