Joshua Fulton returns to take over the Coral Springs track and field team bringing national-level coaching experience
Coral Springs, Florida – The Coral Springs High School track and field program is entering a new chapter with the return of head coach Joshua Fulton, a familiar name who brings both local roots and national-level experience back to the team. School officials confirmed Fulton has officially taken over the program, setting the stage for a renewed focus on performance, discipline, and team culture.
Fulton previously coached the Coral Springs track and field team in 2023 before leaving for Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. During his time at Barton, he quickly made an impact on the national stage. Under his leadership, the program earned one junior college national championship in indoor track and three national runner-up finishes across indoor and outdoor track seasons. Those results helped establish Fulton as a coach capable of building competitive programs in a short amount of time.
Now back in Broward County, Fulton said his goal is to reshape the mindset of the Coral Springs team. He wants to create an environment where athletes consistently push themselves and see their potential beyond high school competition. His vision is rooted in the standards he observed and enforced at the collegiate level.
“The mindset needs to be different. Every athlete needs to believe they can do a lot better and work hard to be better. We have athletes who could be on a college team,” said Fulton.
Fulton’s return is also personal. Broward County is home, and he said being closer to family played a major role in his decision. A 2008 graduate of Fort Lauderdale High School, Fulton was a competitive runner himself, specializing in the 800-meter run. His background as an athlete helps him relate to his runners and understand the demands of training and competition.
The Coral Springs roster includes several standout athletes, including Olivia Higgins, one of the fastest runners on the team. Higgins finished third in the 800-meter run at last year’s state championship meet and is expected to be a key leader this season. In addition to the 800, she competes in the 400-meter dash, the mile run, and is part of the 4×400 relay team, making her one of the program’s most versatile competitors.

With Fulton back at the helm, expectations are rising as the season moves forward. Practices have already taken on a sharper focus, with an emphasis on consistency, accountability, and preparation. Fulton has made it clear that success will be measured not only by medals, but by daily effort and growth.
The team will have an early opportunity to showcase its progress when Coral Springs hosts a track and field meet on February 17. Athletes from Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Coral Glades, and Monarch are expected to compete, offering a strong test against local rivals.
As the season unfolds, Fulton hopes his experience and vision will help elevate the program and prepare athletes for success well beyond the high school track.
