Coral Springs invites local high school seniors to apply for the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr scholarship program and gain financial support for college

Coral Springs, Florida – The City of Coral Springs has officially opened applications for its 2026 Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Program, inviting local high school seniors to apply for financial support as they prepare for higher education. The annual scholarship aims to honor the legacy of Dr. King by recognizing students who excel academically, demonstrate strong community involvement, and uphold the values of service and leadership.
The scholarship, administered by the Coral Springs MLK Committee, provides one-year financial assistance to students planning to attend accredited colleges, universities, or technical schools. Funds are sent directly to the institution to help cover tuition and other academic expenses, easing the financial burden for families.
To be eligible, applicants must have lived in Coral Springs for at least one year and be enrolled as seniors at J.P. Taravella High School, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Coral Springs High School, Coral Springs Charter School, or Coral Glades High School. A minimum GPA of 2.5 and proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency are also required.
In keeping with Dr. King’s legacy, the scholarship emphasizes service to the community. Students must demonstrate involvement in humanitarian efforts or volunteer activities, supported by verification from a teacher, counselor, or clergy member. Additionally, two letters of recommendation are required to strengthen each application.
Applicants must submit a completed application form along with a recent transcript, FAFSA documentation, proof of college acceptance, and a copy of their family’s most recent tax return. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered. The deadline for applications is March 6, 2026, giving students several months to prepare their materials and showcase their achievements.
Selected finalists will be invited to interviews in April, allowing the committee to learn more about each student’s accomplishments, goals, and dedication to service. Scholarship recipients will be notified shortly after the interviews. Last year, the Coral Springs MLK Committee awarded a total of $40,000 to 24 outstanding seniors, reflecting both the city’s commitment to education and its recognition of student leadership and engagement.
“The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship is more than just financial support,” said a representative from the Coral Springs MLK Committee. “It’s about celebrating young people who embody Dr. King’s principles of service, leadership, and dedication to making their communities better.”

With opportunities like this, Coral Springs continues to invest in the next generation of leaders, encouraging them to pursue higher education while staying connected to the values of service, compassion, and community that Dr. King championed.
By opening its doors to students who are committed not only to academic excellence but also to meaningful contributions to society, the program ensures that the spirit of Dr. King remains alive in Coral Springs, inspiring young people to follow his example of leadership, integrity, and dedication to others.
This scholarship program stands as a reminder that achievement is measured not only by grades but also by a willingness to uplift others and make a tangible difference in the community. For graduating seniors, it represents both recognition and support as they take the next step toward college and beyond.
