Police arrest man in Coral Springs after he tries to open car door while people were still inside and then refuses to cooperate

Coral Springs, Florida – A strange and tense incident unfolded on the Fourth of July at a Coral Springs apartment complex, where a man was arrested after reportedly trying to force his way into a vehicle that had people inside. According to police, the situation escalated further when the man refused to cooperate with officers and actively resisted being arrested.

The incident happened near 10700 West Sample Road, where witnesses reported seeing 40-year-old Tervaruss Papageorge of Pompano Beach pulling on the driver’s side door handle of a locked white BMW. Inside the vehicle at the time were the driver and two passengers, who quickly gave officers a clear description of the suspect. They noted that he was wearing a white shirt and had braided hair.

When police arrived at the scene, they located Papageorge sitting inside a nearby pickup truck that matched the description provided by the witnesses. Officers approached him and instructed him to exit the vehicle, but according to the arrest report, Papageorge refused to comply. He reportedly argued with the officers and refused to leave the truck when asked.

“I don’t have to do anything,” Papageorge told the officers during the confrontation. “Don’t talk to me like I’m not an animal.”

Even after being given multiple clear commands to get out of the truck, Papageorge continued to resist. Eventually, he did exit the vehicle, but officers said he continued to struggle and pulled away as they attempted to place him under arrest. After a brief struggle, he was forced to the ground and handcuffed without further incident.

Following his arrest, Papageorge was transported to Broward Health Coral Springs for a medical evaluation. Once cleared by medical staff, he was taken to jail where he was booked on charges of burglary of an occupied vehicle and resisting an officer without violence.

According to jail records, Papageorge has since been released on bond.

Although no one was physically harmed in the incident, the confrontation drew attention from residents in the area, especially given the timing of the event during the Independence Day holiday. Police said this serves as a reminder to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior when it happens.

Authorities did not release further details about why Papageorge may have been trying to enter the locked BMW or what his intentions might have been.
