Coral Springs police apprehend suspect hiding on roof during SWAT search following robbery and shooting investigation
Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs police recently apprehended a 21-year-old suspect in dramatic fashion after hours of a standoff during a SWAT operation connected to a robbery that escalated into a shooting. According to the Coral Springs Police Department, the suspect, identified as Kayden Williams, was ultimately found hiding on the roof of a home late on Jan. 27 following an extended search and hours of refusing to comply with police commands.
Officers and members of the SWAT team executed a search warrant on the residence in the 11500 block of Northwest 36th Street. The warrant was part of an ongoing investigation into a robbery that had occurred the day prior and which led to a shooting in which a victim was struck three times. Investigators allege that Williams orchestrated the robbery, resulting in serious injury to the victim.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers immediately began issuing verbal commands, instructing everyone inside the home to come out. Williams’ mother, younger brother, and a roommate complied and exited the residence without incident. Williams, however, refused to leave and remained inside for approximately two and a half hours, despite repeated attempts by police to gain her cooperation.
During this time, the SWAT team cleared the home to ensure the safety of all occupants and neighbors. By 10:52 p.m., the residence was declared safe, though Williams remained at large. Officers continued searching the property and eventually located her hiding on the roof. She was taken into custody shortly after midnight on Jan. 28.
The investigation did not end with her apprehension. During a subsequent search of Williams’ bedroom, officers discovered multiple live rounds of 5.7 x 28mm ammunition stored in a yellow fanny pack and on top of a desk. According to police, the ammunition matched the type used in two shootings connected to the robbery. Detectives also noted that Williams had been observed wearing the fanny pack earlier in the day during covert surveillance.
Williams faces multiple charges, including possession of a weapon or ammunition by a delinquent adult felon and obstructing an officer without violence. After being processed at the Coral Springs Police Department, she was transported to the Broward Sheriff’s Office jail.
Court records reveal that Williams has a prior juvenile history dating back to 2021, including charges for attempted felony murder, armed burglary, and robbery with a firearm. Those incidents stemmed from a December 2021 case that resulted in her commitment to a maximum-risk residential program. Upon release, she was placed on conditional release, which was later terminated on May 21, 2025, after the Department of Juvenile Justice lost jurisdiction over her case.
The case highlights both the ongoing risks posed by repeat offenders and the complex challenges law enforcement faces when executing high-risk search warrants. Coral Springs authorities emphasized that the prolonged standoff and rooftop hiding did not prevent officers from safely securing the suspect and clearing the residence.
Williams’ arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny over local crime patterns and the handling of serious juvenile offenders transitioning into adulthood. As investigations continue, police said they will be reviewing all aspects of the robbery and shooting incidents to determine further charges or connections, underscoring their commitment to public safety and accountability in Coral Springs.
