Wings Plus in Coral Springs will host a community fundraiser Tuesday to support the family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball coach after his wife’s brain cancer diagnosis

Coral Springs, Florida – A Coral Springs community is coming together this week to support the family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School baseball head coach Todd Fitz-Gerald, whose wife, Colleen, is currently battling brain cancer. Wings Plus, located at 9880 W. Sample Road, will host a fundraiser on Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 5 to 9 p.m., with all proceeds from dine-in, takeout, and online orders going to the Fitz-Gerald family. Customers are asked to mention “Fitz-Gerald Family” when placing their orders for contributions to count toward the fundraiser.
Todd Fitz-Gerald is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished high school baseball coaches in the nation. Over his career, he has led Marjory Stoneman Douglas to six national championships, seven state titles, and a perfect 29–0 season in 2023. Beyond his coaching achievements, supporters say Fitz-Gerald has always prioritized family, loyalty, and showing up for one another – principles that are now being reflected back to him and his loved ones during this difficult time.
The fundraiser at Wings Plus is one of several ways the community is rallying around the family. A GoFundMe campaign created by the MSD baseball community has already raised $101,275 toward a $110,000 goal. The campaign highlights the significant emotional and financial challenges the family is facing, including medical bills, specialized care for Colleen, and lost income as she focuses on treatment. The GoFundMe page describes Colleen as a devoted wife and mother to sons Devin and Hunter and emphasizes the importance of community support during such a trying period. Donations can still be made at gofundme.com/f/46z8k-supporting-the-fitzgerald-family.
Local supporters say the Wings Plus fundraiser is more than just a financial effort; it’s a chance for the community to show love and solidarity for a family that has long given so much back to Coral Springs. “Coach Fitz-Gerald has spent years emphasizing family values on and off the field. Now it’s our turn to give back to him and his family,” one community member said.
The event promises to be a gathering of neighbors, fans, and families who want to help in any way they can. By simply ordering a meal at Wings Plus and mentioning the Fitz-Gerald family, patrons can make a meaningful contribution while participating in a community-wide show of support.
For the Fitz-Gerald family, the outpouring of support has already provided some relief amid the uncertainty of Colleen’s diagnosis. From fundraisers to online donations, the Coral Springs community continues to rally, demonstrating how the bonds of family, friendship, and community can provide strength in challenging times.
With the fundraiser and ongoing donations, the family hopes to ease some of the financial burden and focus on what matters most—being together and supporting Colleen through her treatment. The event at Wings Plus underscores the power of community action and reminds everyone of the impact small gestures can make in the lives of those facing serious health challenges.
