The Grove Museum welcomes the community to an open house filled with holiday activities and a giving opportunity for local seniors

Tallahassee, Florida – The Grove Museum is gearing up for one of its most anticipated traditions of the year, inviting residents from across the region to take part in its Annual Open House and community giving event on Saturday, December 6. The celebration, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., blends history, holiday cheer, and meaningful charitable outreach designed to support local seniors in need. As the season of giving approaches, this year’s gathering once again highlights the museum’s mission to serve both as a cultural landmark and a community hub.
Secretary of State Cord Byrd encouraged the public to take part in the festivities and in the giving initiative, describing the open house as a chance to appreciate one of Tallahassee’s historic treasures while helping neighbors who rely on essential supplies. “This open house is a great opportunity to showcase the historic Call-Collins House,” said Secretary Byrd. “Come join us for holiday cheer and an opportunity to give back to the community by donating much-needed supplies for area seniors.”
Central to the event is a renewed partnership between The Grove Museum and Elder Care Services, Inc., marking the second consecutive year of their collaboration. A representative from Elder Care Services will be on-site throughout the event to accept donations that address immediate needs among seniors in the Tallahassee and Big Bend regions. Requested items include space heaters, microwaves, bed linens, blankets, towels, washcloths, and nutritional supplement drinks—supplies that can make a significant difference for vulnerable residents during the winter months.
In addition to its charitable mission, the open house will offer a full slate of free activities for visitors of all ages. The historic Call-Collins House will be decorated with festive seasonal décor, culminating in a Christmas tree-lighting ceremony at 2:00 p.m. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy crafts, lawn games, and extended museum hours until 4:00 p.m., creating an inviting environment for families, history enthusiasts, and newcomers alike.
The schedule for the day includes a variety of educational programs and community-led experiences. Vendors and partners will open their booths at 10:00 a.m., featuring organizations such as the Early Learning Coalition, John G. Riley Center & Museum, Museum of Florida History, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Florida State University, UF/IFAS Leon County Extension Office, and WFSU Education. Local favorites Kona Ice, Pazotti Bakery, and Sunshine Macarons will also be on hand, adding sweet and seasonal treats to the day’s offerings.
At 10:30 a.m., guests can join a guided Nature Walk exploring the museum grounds, followed by a special musical performance by the Leon High School Melodears at noon. Later, at 1:00 p.m., curators will lead a guided tour of the temporary exhibition “Beyond the Suit,” offering insight into one of the museum’s current featured displays.
By blending community giving with historical appreciation and festive programming, The Grove Museum’s Annual Open House aims to create a meaningful and memorable event for the Tallahassee community. More than a seasonal celebration, the day stands as a reminder of the power of local engagement—an invitation to connect, learn, support one another, and step into the holiday season with generosity at its center.
