Family and friends will come together this weekend to honor the life of 18-year-old Anthony Sahlin from Coral Springs killed in a Turnpike crash

Coral Springs, Florida – Family and friends will come together this weekend to honor Anthony Sahlin, an 18-year-old Coral Springs resident who tragically lost his life in a crash on Florida’s Turnpike early Sunday morning. The community mourns the loss of a young life cut short, as loved ones prepare to celebrate his memory and support one another during this difficult time.

An open viewing for Sahlin will be held on Saturday, November 1, at Coral Springs Funeral Home, located at 1420 North University Drive. The viewing begins at 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m., according to announcements shared by the family on social media. Friends, classmates, and neighbors are invited to attend and pay their respects to a young man described as full of potential and promise.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sahlin was a passenger in a 2021 Toyota Camry traveling northbound on the Turnpike when the vehicle collided with a Tamarac Fire Rescue engine. The fire truck was stopped on the inside shoulder with its emergency lights activated while responding to an earlier crash at approximately 7:40 a.m.

Investigators reported that the driver of the Camry, a 20-year-old Coral Springs man, failed to move over, striking the rear of the fire engine. The impact caused the car to spin and face south in the travel lanes, leaving all three occupants trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency responders quickly extricated Sahlin, the driver, and a 16-year-old passenger from Parkland.

All three were transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where Sahlin succumbed to his injuries. The other occupants survived, though the crash left the community shaken and grappling with the sudden loss of a local teen.

Sahlin was a recent graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, attending from 2021 to 2025, according to his LinkedIn profile. Those who knew him remember a bright and vibrant student with a promising future. The news of his death has prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media, highlighting the impact he had on friends, family, and classmates during his short life.

The Coral Springs community continues to emphasize safety on roadways and the importance of slowing down and moving over for emergency responders. Incidents like this serve as stark reminders of how quickly lives can change and the risks that come with inattentive driving.

Those planning to attend the viewing and service are encouraged to arrive early to pay their respects and join the family in celebrating the memory of a beloved Coral Springs resident. The funeral home and community hope that this coming together provides comfort and strength to all who knew Sahlin.
