Coral Springs man allegedly attacks police officers after becoming combative and throwing insults at Moon Thai and Japanese Restaurant

Coral Springs, Florida – A routine night out at a Coral Springs restaurant escalated into a violent confrontation with police last week when a 38-year-old man allegedly became aggressive after being denied additional alcohol, authorities reported.

Matthew England, a Coral Springs resident, reportedly caused a disturbance at Moon Thai and Japanese Restaurant on Westview Drive around 8:40 p.m. on October 14. According to police, the incident began when staff refused to serve England a third drink, citing visible signs of intoxication.

A bartender told officers that England had already consumed two drinks and became hostile when refused further service. “England responded by shouting homophobic insults, hitting the bartender’s hand, and trying to push his way into the kitchen,” the police report stated. His outburst quickly drew attention from both staff and patrons, prompting a call to law enforcement.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found England outside the restaurant, described as visibly drunk and combative. According to the report, the situation escalated further when England allegedly spat on one officer and kicked another in the groin. Officers were ultimately able to restrain him and fitted him with a spit mask to prevent further attacks.

Following the altercation, England was transported to Broward Health Coral Springs for medical evaluation. He was later booked into the Broward County Main Jail on multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, disorderly intoxication, and possession of Xanax without a prescription. Authorities confirmed that he has since been released on bond.

The incident has raised concerns about alcohol-related disturbances in local establishments. Police emphasized that staff followed proper protocol by refusing to serve alcohol to an intoxicated customer and that the violent behavior occurred after these precautions were taken.

Moon Thai and Japanese Restaurant, a popular spot for Thai cuisine and sushi, has not commented publicly on the incident. Law enforcement officials said no other patrons or staff sustained serious injuries, and the restaurant resumed normal operations following the altercation.

Incidents like these underscore the challenges restaurant staff face in enforcing responsible alcohol service, as well as the potential risks law enforcement officers encounter when responding to intoxicated and aggressive individuals. Authorities reminded the public to comply with safety rules in public establishments and to avoid escalating conflicts that could result in criminal charges.

As of now, England is awaiting further legal proceedings related to the incident. The Coral Springs Police Department continues to investigate, and officials said they are committed to maintaining safety and order at local businesses while supporting staff and patrons in handling potentially dangerous situations.
