Coral Springs police search for driver who fled after fatal hit-and-run crash claims life of 65-year-old woman

Coral Springs, Florida – A tragic early-morning crash in Coral Springs has claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman, prompting an active investigation by local authorities into a hit-and-run driver. The collision occurred Friday at 5:22 a.m. at the intersection of Sample Road and Woodside Drive, according to Coral Springs Police spokesperson Ryan Himmer.
The accident involved two vehicles, including a black Toyota Corolla carrying two passengers and a silver Chevrolet Impala, whose driver fled the scene on foot. Emergency responders from the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department quickly transported both occupants of the Corolla to Broward Health North.
Himmer confirmed that the passenger, Debra Indar, was in critical condition following the crash and tragically succumbed to her injuries on Sunday. The loss was made even more poignant as the crash occurred on Indar’s 65th birthday. The Corolla’s driver, initially reported in serious condition, has since been released from the hospital.
Police officials have not yet identified the driver of the silver Chevrolet Impala, emphasizing that the case remains an active investigation. “We are asking anyone with information about this crash or the vehicle involved to come forward,” Himmer said, urging the public to contact Officer X. Reinoso at [email protected] or by calling 954-346-1269.
The incident caused significant disruption to the area, with portions of Sample Road temporarily closed while police and fire officials worked at the scene. The road was eventually cleared and reopened around 11:30 a.m. Friday, but not before traffic delays impacted early commuters.
Authorities are particularly concerned about locating the Impala’s driver, who left the scene on foot, as hit-and-run crashes are treated as serious criminal offenses. Investigators are reviewing traffic cameras and speaking with witnesses to determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
This tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers posed by drivers who flee the scene of an accident. Coral Springs Police are urging anyone who may have seen the crash or observed a silver Chevrolet Impala in the area early Friday morning to provide information. “Your tips could be crucial in helping bring closure to the family and holding the responsible party accountable,” Himmer said.
As the investigation continues, the Coral Springs community is left mourning the loss of Debra Indar while hoping for justice in a case marked by both heartbreak and unresolved questions. Police have pledged to remain vigilant in identifying the hit-and-run driver and ensuring the safety of residents on Sample Road and throughout the city.
