Coral Springs offers compost workshops in September to help residents learn sustainable waste management and organics recycling

Coral Springs, Florida – Residents of Coral Springs have an opportunity this September to learn how to turn food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost at home. The City of Coral Springs is hosting a series of compost workshops aimed at teaching residents how to participate in the city’s organics drop-off program and adopt sustainable waste practices.
The city’s Office of Sustainability will lead the workshops at City Hall, located at 9500 West Sample Road. Two sessions are scheduled: the first on Thursday, September 11, from 6 to 7 p.m., and the second on Saturday, September 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Each workshop is designed to be hands-on, allowing participants to ask questions, see demonstrations, and receive guidance on starting and maintaining a compost system at home.
Attendees will also receive an at-home organics collection kit to help them get started with composting. City officials note that only one kit will be provided per household. Light refreshments will be offered at both events, creating an inviting and interactive atmosphere for residents to learn and engage with city sustainability staff.
The workshops are open exclusively to Coral Springs residents, and registration is required. The city encourages residents to sign up early, as spots are limited and expected to fill quickly. By participating, residents not only gain valuable knowledge about composting but also contribute to the city’s broader efforts to reduce landfill waste and promote environmentally responsible practices.
City officials emphasize that the compost workshops are part of a larger initiative to encourage sustainable living in Coral Springs. By providing residents with the tools and knowledge to divert organic waste from landfills, the city aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enrich local soils, and create a healthier, more sustainable community.
These educational workshops offer a practical way for residents to make a positive environmental impact while learning a valuable skill. Coral Springs continues to promote programs like these to foster community engagement and sustainable habits that benefit both the environment and residents’ homes.
For more information or to register for a compost workshop, residents can visit the city’s website or contact the Office of Sustainability directly.
