Shirtless man in Coral Springs arrested after police find fake license plate and marijuana during late night stop

Coral Springs, Florida – What started as a routine late-night patrol near a closed gas station in Coral Springs ended with a man in handcuffs facing drug charges after police said they found marijuana, a fake license plate, and other items linked to drug dealing.

The arrest happened shortly after midnight on July 2, when police spotted 37-year-old Adam Perry standing shirtless next to a silver BMW parked awkwardly at the Cumberland Farms gas station on West Sample Road. According to the police report, the business had been closed for several hours, and Perry’s behavior, along with the strange positioning of his car, immediately caught the attention of the officers.

As officers approached, they ran a check on the BMW’s license plate and discovered it didn’t belong to the car. Instead, the plate was registered to a completely different vehicle — a 2014 Hyundai, police said.

Before officers could question Perry further, he got back into the BMW and drove off. However, police were able to track him down just a short distance away at an apartment complex on Terrapin Lane. Once again, officers noted, Perry parked the vehicle in a careless manner.

When police approached Perry at the apartment complex, they immediately noticed the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. According to the report, Perry admitted he had marijuana in the car and confirmed he did not have a medical marijuana card.

A search of the BMW revealed far more than just a personal supply of cannabis. Officers uncovered a large plastic bag containing 25.87 grams of marijuana, two smaller bags of cannabis, several pre-rolled joints, a digital scale, drug paraphernalia, zip-lock bags often used for packaging drugs, and a sum of cash in small denominations.

Perry tried to explain the situation to officers, claiming that the license plate belonged to his mother and had come off another car with an expired tag. He admitted to swapping the plates in order to avoid driving with expired temporary tags on his own vehicle. However, he denied any involvement in drug sales despite the evidence found in his car.

Still, officers were not convinced. Based on the quantity of marijuana, the packaging materials, and the scale, they concluded that Perry was likely involved in drug distribution. A field test conducted on the substances confirmed the presence of THC.

Perry was arrested on multiple charges, including possession of cannabis over 20 grams, possession with intent to sell or deliver, and attaching a license plate not assigned to the vehicle. He was transported to the Broward County Jail and later released.

Police said this arrest serves as a reminder that even small, suspicious behaviors can lead to bigger discoveries. In this case, what appeared to be a man loitering outside a closed gas station resulted in uncovering a stash of drugs and illegal activity.

No further court date has been announced for Perry at this time.
